Book Design Checklist
for Getting Started

There are a few things we need that will help the design process along. A few of those are vital to finishing your book cover in a timely manner. For instance, the manuscript must first be edited and the interior typeset so that an accurate page count can be provided. Without a final page count, the spine width cannot be calculated or designed and the delivery of the final book cover will be delayed.
Author’s often find that a having a cover design in hand motivates them to finish their manuscript or complete the editing and layout process. That is understandable, but please understand that if the job will be put on hold after

30 days from start, full payment needs to be made. I will complete the design when all information on this checklist is provided.
PRINT Checklist below to gather the necessary date to complete a book cover. Then go to “Get Started” (at left) and input as much data as you can so that we can at least start your job, knowing that the rest of the data is vital to it’s completion and that we will be asking for it at some point.
We can then get started on your book cover once you sign the Service Agreement and make the required deposit of $200 to get your job started.  If you wish to discuss your job before you do so, you are welcome to contact us someone from our team will get back to you as soon as possible.



  • Final size of your book (most books by self-publishers are 5.5 x 8.5, or 6 x 9)


  • Name and website address of printer.


  • Name and website address of publisher.


  • Book cover (paperback or hard cover)


  • Binding and paper choice (most books by self publishers are perfect bound, laminate on white stock).


  • ISBN number (I can provide the barcode for free)


  • Number of pages (The interior of the book needs to be typeset and ready to submit to the printer before the page count can be known. Let me know if you need help with editing or formatting the interior of your manuscript. The book cover can be in development while the interior layout is in process but cannot be finished without the final page count)


  • Book title, subtitle, and author’s name as it will appear on the cover.


  • Short synopsis of book (for my own information).


  • Ideas for cover, which can be developed during consultation.


  • Helpful: Provide samples of book covers (on Amazon for example) that have the general feeling for what you would like to see on your cover. Explain why you like the sample covers.
